About
Takeo was born in Paris in 1984 and currently lives and works in Switzerland.
Takeo creates bas-relief made out of paper, predominantly depicting attractive female bodies, nude or wearing swimsuits.
He has developed a distinctive technic using collage of several layers of paper sheets, previously cut by hand, with a result similar to an architectural topographic model.
Having experience in digital design, he started this process with the will to transfer design software features, like drop shadow effects and vector shapes, to reality with an artisanal finish.
His work focuses on the harmony of shapes and volumes, in addition with bold colour combinations. Some of his paintings use fluorescent paint that reveals a different view in the dark.
Takeo takes inspiration from the contemporary Pop culture, from nightlife and music, to fashion and surf culture. His work also tends to embrace a certain visual language, developed in the recent years within social media, dedicated to the cult of physical beauty.
Some subjects have brightly colored bodies, sometimes displaying patterns as "visual warnings" like aposematic organisms, such as some butterflies or frogs species, would have to avoid potential harm of predators or to warn them of their toxicity.
This "visual warnings" concept grew through a mixed feelings of fear, obsession, and admiration for women and their image in our contemporary societies.
